Since 2007, roller derby has experienced a massive revival around the world, with Australia alone boasting 51 city and regional leagues. Not only is this Australia’s fastest growing sport, but it attracts the largest number of spectators to any female sport in Australia.

WIRD was established in February 2009, where training started in an open-air car park with a small group of dedicated women. Today the league has 36 skating members, 8 referees and our two-hour training sessions are held three times a week at the UOW Sports Hub. In 2010 we have been holding public bouts with an average attendance of 500 spectators and we are confident that 2011 will prove to be an even more successful year for WIRD and for roller derby as a sport in general.
WIRD operates as a not-for-profit organisation, with membership dues just covering the basic costs of training. Sponsorship from your organisation would help us to cover costs such as insurance, venue hire, promotional materials, first aid, professional team and league uniforms, and training equipment and resources for trainers, skaters, officials and volunteers.
